Support with understanding and testing your financial options

Please go to the questions and answers that interest you by using the video time indicators below -

00.00 – Introduction.

The couple will have both told me that they want to achieve a fair financial outcome but currently have slightly different ideas about what fairness means to them. They also need help to understand the some of the financial information as well as help with exploring their financial options so that they can ultimately make fully informed financial decisions.

02.45 – Can you give our viewers some examples of cases you are working on, to help them better understand what you do and how you can help them?

03.00 – Breaking the financial circumstances into sections and questions

Property- How much equity, mortgages, what are their approaches, plans and preferences

Other assets – Types

Pensions – How large, ages etc

Income and expenditure

03.45 – What do the couple need to understand about the different assets and why?

When talking about a range of different types of assets, what does an equal division look like?

07.00 – What about these questions?

What does a good ‘enough’ financial outcome need to achieve for them, what are their priorities- Home, income now and in retirement, children.

Based on the assets and resources they have, how are they going to achieve as many of their priorities as possible- Matching up the assets with the needs.

08.45 – At what stage in the mediation process will you get involved to help the couples ensure that they have the correct info and understand more about their financial situation?

It is most useful to see the info in advance so that I am better prepared to help the couple

11.00 – What would it be useful to have from the mediator, at what stage and how would you like to work with the couple ?

I would like the mediation financial summary after the first session and an overview/summary of their circumstances and priorities once the couple have broadly discussed their views, approaches and priorities in the mediation, so that I can help them to properly reality test their options as well as other options they may not have thought about

14.00 – How can you help with any imbalance of information and knowledge power?

15.00 – Can you work with the husband and wife together as well as individually? What are the benefits? How would it work?

“I am very keen to help the couple achieve a fair outcome, fair in reality, ensuring that they fully understand the implications of each option so that they make fully informed decisions”.

I help the couple take into account things they may not have thought about

22.30 – How can you help the couple once they have reached their agreement for their futures

28.00 – What are your terms of business. How do you get involved?
